Project title: Pierce
Category:  Free-Standing Shelving unit.
Material & Process: Press-moulded shelves with Oak Veneer, Beech legs.
Dimensions (cm): 200 x 160 x 60
Year of design: 2013 (CMC Studio)

Brief:  The concept behind this piece was to develop a collection of furniture with as few components as possible. It is a playful experiment with physics, using only the form of each component and the geometry of the construction to produce a sturdy shelving unit without fixtures or fittings. Pierce not only lends itself beautifully to the task in hand but also addresses logistical challenges of pieces as large as this one.

The shelves are steam pressed to create a lipped edge around the parameter to prevent items from rolling way and have ample flat surfaces to display our wares as well as the more unusual shaped Art-books we all have tucked away.

Project title: Moston M1 Bumper Case (IPhone 4/4s)
Category: Design through to production
Material & Process:  Space grade Aluminium/ Aeronautic High-tech Ceramic composites
Dimensions (mm): 115 x 60 x 14
Year of design: 2011(CMC Studio)

Brief:  Design through to production a high-end solution to the IPhone 4’s poor reception issue.

Comments: The Moston M1 project was one of the more interesting projects. I was originally approached as a consultant for the project where a client wanted to produce a I Phone 4 case which would help resolve the issues with reception, I got a feel for the project and soon after I was granted full creative freedom and begin creating concepts, prototypes became the Art director for the company.  The project brought me together with some of the more prominent watch makers from the Netherlands, UK and of course Switzerland for the parts. In the end we had we created a super hi-end solution to the original reception issues as well as a stunning piece of engineering which sits comfortably at the top end of the luxury personal accessories market.

Project title:  Labyrinth Chair by Studio Job  for Moooi
Category:  Rendering and Visualisations
Year of design: 2013 (Studio Job 2006)

Brief:  To create a set of visualisations for this archetypal armchair by Studio Job. In true monumental fashion Studio Job had created a unique Labyrinth fabric for the upholstery. Each plane has its own corresponding part of the puzzle which continues throughout the whole design. Creating the visuals for this piece meant hours of labour and a process which didn’t differ too much from the genuine craft of upholstery.

It’s always a pleasure to work with some of the greatest designers and design labels in the industry and this project for Moooi was no exception.

Project title:  Inaba
Category:  Asian Cabinet (Chinese)
Material & Process: Black Lacquered wood construction, Silk drawer set interior.
Dimensions (cm):  160 x 80 x 80
Year of design: 2013 (CMC Studio)

Brief:  This piece was designed for a private client. I was delighted to have the opportunity to research the strong archetypal aesthetics from Asian culture including the traditional architectural forms of construction and spiritual awareness.

The concept was to create a unique Asian inspired display cabinet which would celebrate the tradition craft work and traditions. A collection of beautiful silk drawers are housed inside a slatted construction. This type of construction blurs the boundaries inside-outside and offers a voyeuristic glimpse of the drawers inside.

Project title: Moooi Architects Key
Category: Concept contributor, technical drawings and overseeing production.
Dimensions (mm): 44 x 30 x 5
Year of design: 2011 (Marcel Wanders Studio)

Brief:  To create a give-away market tool to direct Architects to the new collection from Moooi.

Comments:  Moooi had the idea of presenting Architects with a golden key to promote a new concept of providing all the necessary tools both Architects and Interior designer need for their presentations. Granting hem exclusive access to all the latest products, technical drawings, 3D models ad product information. I took this concept further by creating a QR code which when scanned with a camera phone would go directly to the website page where by this information could be downloaded. The idea was to integrate the QR code into the design of a Key on a key chain.

Project title:  LRS (Little Red Stool)
Category:  Furniture for Primary School Children
Material & Process: Polypropylene (reinforced).
Dimensions (cm):  Age dependent (Avg 36 x 24 x 27
Year of design: 2004/5

Brief: This was a conceptual project based entirely on my finding from a study into how anthropology and ergonomics can help to focus a child’s attention in the classroom. The angles from the stool assist blood circulation to the brain encouraging a better formulation of memory while the three legs prevent the child from fidgeting during lessons.
